Housing Rehab / Home Improvement Grant
Homes Are Possible (HAPI) offers grant funds for families to improve their homes for a maximum of $5,000 per household. There is a forgivable mortgage that goes along with receiving this grant. It states that the grant will be forgiven at the rate of 20% per year. If you move or sell the home prior to 5 years, you will be required to pay the un-forgiven portion of the deed restriction. Home Improvement Loan
South Dakota Housing Development Authority offers a Community Home Improvement Program (CHIP) which provides low-interest loans for eligible borrowers to improve or repair the borrower's present single family home. Learn more >


Weatherization Assistance

Weatherization is a service to assist individuals in providing energy efficient measures in their homes. A GROW South Dakota representative will conduct an energy audit on the home to determine what repairs are cost-effective to increase energy efficiency and reduce the cost of utilities. Common repairs include: adding insulation in walls and attics, weather stripping doors and windows, minor repairs, and furnace repairs and replacements.  Income guidelines determine eligibility. Application and more details >

First-time & Repeat Homebuyers

South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) prolow-interestterest mortgage loans to eligible homebuyers purchasing a home in the state of South Dakota. There are several interest rate options available.

Eligible Veterans who have been honorably discharged from active military duty, or have reenlisted subsequent to the date they would have been honorably discharged, and have owned a home within the past three years may obtain mortgage financing through SDHDA's First-time Homebuyer Program. Downpayment Assistance

Housing Loan Prequalification

GROW South Dakota assist people interested in purchasing a home by having them complete a prequalification packet regarding their ability to purchase a home and eligibility for homeownership.  Applicants will have their credit history reviewed.  GROW SD will review all of the information with the client regarding their ability to purchase a home.  This process will allow the applicant to determine readiness and direction for homeownership and reviews various lending choices for homeowners. Paint South Dakota
